Waqrapukara Trek 1 Day
Waqrapukara Tour is a new tourist attraction recently promoted in Cusco, located in the province of Acomayo near the Apurímac River, at an altitude of 4,300 masl (13,123 ft), south of the city of Cusco. Waqrapukara has not yet been fully deciphered and can be considered as a fortress, a sanctuary or an astronomical observatory. Initially built by the Quinchas and later conquered by the Incas, this site offers a unique and unusual destination where visitors can enjoy spectacular landscapes, various lagoons and the abysses of the Apurímac canyon. It is an opportunity to connect with nature and feel the energy of this amazing place.
Let yourself be inspired for your next vacation!
Waqrapukara Trek 1 Day
Itinerary
Early, around 3:30 am, we will pick you up at your hotel to head to the starting point of our hike, which will take approximately 2.5 hours to the province of Acomayo. There, we will enjoy the circuit of the four lagoons of Acomayo. Then we will continue for about 30 more minutes until we reach the Laguna Qenterococha (4,330 masl / 14,138 ft), where a delicious breakfast awaits us.
After breakfast, we will begin our hike to the Waqrapukara complex. During the journey, we will be able to admire the local flora and fauna.
Once we reach the first viewpoint of Waqrapukara, we will pause to rest before continuing on to our final destination. Upon reaching this incredible place, we will have time to rest and explore the archaeological center with our guide, who will provide us with detailed information. You will also have free time to explore and take photos.
We will then begin our return journey along a different, easier path that offers different views of the Apurímac Canyon. We estimate returning to the starting point of the trail around 1:40 p.m., where our private transportation will be waiting for us and we will enjoy lunch. We will return to Cusco around 7:00 p.m.
