Itinerary

DAY 1: JUNE 21, Welcome to Cusco - City tour (Inti Raymi tour 2024)

A Cultural Perú Tours representative will wait for the arrival of your international flight to welcome you and will accompany you to the hotel in your private transportation to assist you with all check-in procedures. At 1:30 pm. We will pick you up from your hotel to start the first tour, which is in the city of Cusco. The tour we will start with will be the 4-Hour CITY TOUR.

Guided visit to the convent of Santo Domingo, temple of the Sun or koricancha. Later we will move to the rest of the archaeological sites located on the outskirts of the city of Cusco. These sites are Sacsayhuaman, one of the largest archaeological centers in the city of Cusco, you will be able to appreciate the most impressive Inca construction in this area of Cusco, then we will visit the archaeological center of Q’enqo.

Quenqo, which means labyrinth, is located one kilometer from Sacsayhuaman, establishes a construction based on limestone rock that shows stone sculpture in 500 m2 accompanied by structures that according to historians were used for astronomical study, religious and embalming and/or mummification.

Then we will visit the archaeological center of Pucapucara. This name comes from two Quechua words that mean Puca (red) Pucara (fortress) “red fortress”, a strategic place for control and surveillance of access and exit to the Imperial city of Cusco. TIt was also used as a territorial border to divide regions and establish displacement regimes. Finally we will visit Tambomachay resting place, located 9 km away. from the city of Cusco. Better known as the Inca Baths for the water sources or also known as the waters of eternal youth for the flow of its waters that is constant and offers us part of the Inca trail that goes from Cusco to Machu Picchu.

Once this archaeological center is completed, we will return to Cusco.

DAY 2: JUNE 22, Visit to the Sacred Valley of the Incas (Train Trip to Aguas Calientes)

On this day, you will embark on a comprehensive tour of the impressive Sacred Valley of the Incas. After breakfast at your hotel, our team will be ready to pick you up at approximately 07:30 a.m., starting a fascinating journey through the mountains.

The first stop takes us to the Archaeological Center of Pisac, located 1 hour from Cusco. In this complex, the Incas demonstrated advanced knowledge in the construction of structures. The ruins of Pisac exhibit a system of terraces, domestic and ceremonial structures, and aqueducts that supplied water for agriculture. Subsequently, we will explore the handicraft market of Pisac, full of color and offering a variety of unique handicrafts. At noon, we will have lunch in the town of Urubamba, enjoying a buffet lunch with local and national cuisine.

The next stop will take us to the fortress of Ollantaytambo, a military, agricultural, and religious center that administered and controlled the Sacred Valley. This archaeological site has superimposed terraces, highlighting impressive finely carved stone blocks. Ollantaytambo is recognized as the “Best Tourist Town in the World.”

After the tour in Ollantaytambo, we will head to the station to board the train to Aguas Calientes. This journey takes 01 hour and 50 minutes, immersing us in a ride through lush nature, accompanied by the waters of the Vilcanota River. Once in Aguas Calientes, we will assist you in transferring to your hotel and provide the rest of the day for you to enjoy exploring the town, shopping at craft stores, or dining at local restaurants.

DAY 3: JUNE 23, Visit of Machu Picchu (Return to Cusco)

In the morning we will get up very early to take the bus to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Here, we will have a guided tour of 1 hour and 30 minutes, where our guide will give us data on the construction of the city of Machu Picchu and what each space was used for.

After this important part of Peruvian Andean history, we will have time to take the last photos, or, climb one of the mountains (Machu Picchu mountain or Huayna Picchu) if it is included in your entrance ticket. We will also have time to explore the entire archaeological center and enjoy the photos.

At the end, we will show up at the bus station that will return us to the town of Aguas Calientes. There we can board the train. Approximate travel time one hour and thirty minutes to Ollantaytambo station.

Upon arrival at the Ollantaytambo train station, a representative of our company will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Cusco (1 hour and 30 minute trip by tourist bus).

DAY 4: JUNE 24, Fiesta del Sol ó Inti Raymi (Ceremonia)

Finally, the day has arrived to enjoy Inti Raymi 2024; it takes place once a year, specifically on the winter solstice and was of utmost importance to the Incas. We will witness the performance of this Festival of the Sun, an ancient Andean religious ceremony in honor of Inti (Sun God). Every June 24, the day when the sun is farthest from the earth, the Inti Raymi or “Festival of the Sun” is celebrated. It remains the most important religious festival during the time of the Incas. To this day, it continues to be represented in the architectural complex of Sacsayhuaman.

The Inti Raymi takes a whole day, starting at approximately 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Our team will pick you up from your hotel around 7:45 a.m. to head to the Qorikancha Temple. The ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Qorikancha temple on Av. el Sol. You can witness the entire ceremony, which will take approximately an hour. Then, we will walk to the Plaza de Armas to continue participating in this Andean festival; this ceremony lasts another 45 minutes, observed standing from a point in the Plaza de Armas.

Later, always with the assistance of our team, you will walk to the bus that will take you directly to Sacsayhuaman, where the main offering, worship, gratitude, and requests to the Sun God will be dramatized. Here, the ceremony will last approximately 3 hours, and you can watch it seated in reserved seats. After the ceremony, our team will be present to facilitate the bus return to the City of Cusco, ensuring that your day ends comfortably.
